A Few Tips for Surviving the Summer Heat by Hannah Marks
A Few Tips for Surviving the Summer Heat
If you are like me you have realized in the last couple of weeks it is downright hot here in Louisiana. Summer has set in and we are in for it again this year. I am going to share a few tips with you on how to keep overheating.
- Stay Hydrated
It is important to drink plenty of fluids during these hot summer days. Even if you are not thirsty it is important to increase your fluid intake especially if you are doing outdoor activities.
- Look for warning signs
At the first sign of any dizziness, nausea, or headache STOP and take a break from what you are doing. Take a break and sit down in a cool place to cool down.
- Avoid drinks with lots of sugar
It is best to stick to drinking water and drinks such as Gatorade or Powerade. Water is the best to drink but these sports drinks will help replace electrolytes and other minerals you lose when sweat.
- Limit your time outdoors
If you have to be out in the heat make sure you take frequent breaks throughout the day.
Hope everyone has a great and safe Summer. Remember to take care of yourself in the heat and always stay hydrated!
